The Department of Food Science was established in 1957. The department aims not only to develop the science and technology needed to effectively utilize agricultural and aquatic resources but also to train specialists and scientists in the field of food science. Graduate students focus on integrating and broadening basic food science knowledge as well as developing critical thinking and independent research skills.
The Department of Aquaculture was established in 1974. It aims to cultivate well-trained specialists in aquaculture, improve aquaculture technique in industry and raise the academic standards. The Department provides the theory and practice in aquaculture, and cultivates students to become specialists or talents in aquaculture and biotechnology.
In 2014, the Department of Bioscience and Biotechnology was established in 2013 from Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology and Department of Life Sciences. They have two goals: 1.To cultivate specialists with basis of life sciences and biotechnology. 2.To strengthen the professional knowledge of undergraduate students.
The Institute of Marine Biology was established in 1991 The educational goals are highly trained professionals capable of dealing with issues of marine taxonomy, ecology, life history, evolutionary relationships, resource assessment, and conservation to maintain the marine biology in Taiwan.
The Institute of Food Safety and Risk Management established in 2017 aims to integrate the knowledge of food-related areas and industry-government-academia resources, eventually improve national health and welfare. The purpose is to build a research center of food safety education and risk management in the north of Taiwan and develop a communication channel between food safety and risk management.
The Department of Marine Biotechnology established in 2017. The students training provides an opportunity both to further professional preparation and research skills and to be exposed to new ideas in a stimulating marine academic environment.
Doctoral Degree Program in Marine Biotechnology established in 2015. With the main objective of developing marine biotechnology-related industrial applications, this program offers professional and innovative courses on marine resource development and application for encouraging students to transform the knowledge obtained from the courses into practices. Sustainability of marine bio resources is the ultimate goal
